Mirror, mirror on my phone.

Daniel Saynt, of the very fabulous fashion blog, fashionindie.com, recently featured our solo FX SE as one of his essentials while covering NY Fashion Week.

We agree (of course!), and while some of us in the office sport the mirror film, among our own communities, it's quite the debate whether the mirror - or the clear film - is the way to go.

So I thought, why not do a quick pro/con about the option.

  1. PRO: The mirror film extends the functionality of your iPhone (or BlackBerry). This is especially beneficial for anyone who might have a quick need to check their appearances (prior to an interview, a presentation, a date) or circumnavigate through an awkward social setting (i.e.: that stalker is behind you again). Contrary to popular belief, it is not just for women. Guys are just as self-conscious. They are just less inclined to talk to their buddies about it.
  2. CON: True, it can sometimes diminish visibility on the lit screen when viewed under direct and intense sunlight. I captured a couple of feedback from our customers - and tried it first-hand in Vegas last November - and suddenly found myself less able to execute my perfected walking-while-emailing-while-sipping-coffee-Eastern-North-American routine (NOT recommended). All because of the high desert sun reflecting directly on my film. Good thing the case comes with both clear and mirror options, I was able to quickly switch. Likewise, in less sunnier locations, it's not so bad.
  3. PRO: The mirror film looks just awful good. When I rocked it, I got quite a few compliments in restaurants and on the street. I even had a friend borrow my phone to do a quick hair check one time.
  4. CON: The other side of #3 can work or not, depending on how comfortable you are to attention. So someone who might not want to get much notice might want to choose the clear protective film instead. WARNING: It may be too much for the meek at heart.
Personally, I gravitate more toward the privacy films. It's so cool - it reminds me of a top secret mission every time I use it. Conspiracy geeks, unite!
