Making Great YouTube Videos – A tutorial…

Many of you are looking to boost your YouTube subscriber numbers, but aren’t sure how. Basically, it all comes down to a few core principles that you want to focus on.

1. Make sure your YouTube content is as good, creative, and “viewer-friendly” as possible. It should be interesting and captivating.

Remember, there’s A LOT of stuff out there for people to spend their limited time viewing. If you want them to be interested in your YouTube content, then you need to keep things fresh and creative. Also make sure that it LOOKS as good as possible. Pay attention to things like lighting, audio quality, and so on. Even better, work with a friend who can do the filming while you do the rest (you can return the favour for his or her videos!). Also remember to distinguish clearly which content is YOURS and which you are merely HIGHLIGHTING.  You want your subscribers to be able to identify with YOUR content.

2. Don’t just publish content (e.g. reviews, etc.) in an unorganized way. You should have a clear plan.

Your YouTube channel should be based on your strategic goals. What do you want to accomplish? What are your objectives? What frequency will you be uploading new, fresh and interesting content? Will that content be part of your overall content plan – and if so, how? In a way, think of your YouTube channel like a television network, and each video is a show. Ultimately, you want all the shows to work together in a clear, cohesive strategic plan. You also want there to be a consistent, reliable schedule – because your favorite TV show starts at the same time each day or week, and if it moved around you’d lose interest, right?

3. Get your subscribers talking!

Try and generate interesting and even controversial discussions – though, of course, keep it clean and don’t let your channel turn into a rant, or you will just end up chasing people away. Get your friends and strategic partners to contribute to your discussions, and do the same, and encourage as much commenting as possible. This not only gets more people involved (which means more potential subscribers), but it can also be a great source of fresh new content ideas – which you always need to be on the lookout for!

So there you have it. Sure, there are many more things you can do – and you can find those by searching online. But the above are what I think are the core principles that you need to focus on.  You may even want to print this out and stick it up next to your computer or something…LOL
